M.D. 2011

I really love Memorial Day weekend. School is almost over. The pool is open ... summer is coming! Oh wait, is that snow! Yes, yes it is. I managed to get up to the cabin for a couple days. This is what we woke up to Monday morning. Whatever, summer IS coming. Crummy weather didn't stop us from having our "kick off to 'Summer Sari' BBQ"
I can't wait for the life of a school free, summer girl!

Race For Red

This is one of my favorite races.
UVRMC cardiac unit puts on a great 5k for heart health awareness.
(number one killer of men and women in the US ... did you know that?)
Lots of fun to run with so many friends and family.
My mom did her first 5k and took 3rd place in her age division! That's right ...she got a medal. Families that run together, stay young together!
(I totally just made that up on the spot!)

Mind Your Manners

There are many important things parents are responsible for teaching their children; don't steal, tell the truth, hygiene, social norms, etc ... Shouldn't the simple act of saying "Please" and "Thank You" be amongst the list?

I have been aware lately of the children (young and old) around me who use or don't use these simple words. When a person says 'please', and to me more importantly 'thank you' they are showing respect. Respect for the person they are addressing, respect for the act being done in their behalf. I will admit that I in turn have more respect for the person.

I don't believe that saying 'please' and 'thank you' is a very hard thing to teach. I believe it is a matter of doing the teaching. I have a handful of students that at the end of each class will say 'thank you' as they leave my classroom. It is a conscious effort on their part. It is such a small and simple act, yet one that is very much appreciated. We live in a very 'entitled' society. One lacking respect, responsibility, consequences. The simple words 'please' and 'thank you' can go a long way. Just like most things ... it starts at home! If it is expected at home, it will be done in public.

Stepping off my soap box.
This Saturday!
UVRMC puts on a great race. (great prizes and giveaways) Come and run!

Your Tunes

I am in DESPERATE need of some new running music.
I am a mental case when it comes to running. I have a very hard time letting my mind go and NOT think about running.
Music ... some days I never turn on my music, some days it peps me up and takes me away (well for a second until I notice that I think my knees might be hurting or my foot or elbow), some days it is a little bit of both. I am starting to get into doing longer runs and I think having some new music might help??? SO, what is one of your favorite songs to run to?
