Christmas 2012

I don't know that I have ever looked so forward to Christmas break as I did this year.
 Aunt Sari and Miss Mini

Lee is home from NYC for the holidays.  I love when Lee is in town!
Temple Square.
It's starting to look a lot like Christmas!
Snow on Christmas Eve.
What do we do on Christmas Eve?  A craft of course! (doesn't everyone?)
New Years Banners.
Christmas bread Christmas morning.  Our tradition!
Merry Christmas to all!

Friends

It's our favorite weekend of the year!

Not a moment wasted ... while waiting for Beck at the airport I got a few more minutes of paper writing in before putting it all aside for our girls weekend. (yep, that's my life)
I am pretty much the luckiest girl when it comes to having the best girlfriends!
We might have been laying in my bed with this stash giggling and talking and giggling like we did in junior high.
 BF's FOREVER! for real!

Run Santa Run!

I took a little break from writing papers to run with Santa and Santa and Santa .....
Congrats to Amy!  This was her first race!  She did awesome.  I had a hard time keeping up with her.

 Kind of hilarious!
I think this might need to be a new tradition!

Tis the Season .. for catching up!

Has it really been over a month since I posted anything?  Well that should give you an idea of what my life has been like!  As of 36 hours ago I am officially done with this semester.  The last four months go right up there with some of the hardest months I have ever experienced.  I kind of can't believe that I 1) made it, 2) am done and 3) survived!  But it wasn't ALL school (just a majority of it).  I am going to play a little catch up over the next week.  Let's start with Thanksgiving!

!
Most of my break was spent doing homework. However, I did take Thanksgiving day off to spend the day with my family!  Of course our Thanksgiving was centered around pie!
I even did a craft.  Oh it felt good to create.  These felt flowers ended up on place mats.
We had a lovely Thanksgiving.  I hope you did as well.

Cruising 101

Beckie is going on a cruise next week. LUCKY!
I have been on a few cruises so she asked if I had any advise for her first cruise.  I thought I would share a few cruising tips.

 1. When you get to the ship they will take your bags and deliver them to your room.  It usually takes a couple of hours.  So you want to pack a little carry-on with whatever you might need for the first few hours.  I usually pack my swim suit, sun screen, camera, book, .... you get the idea.  Don't forget to keep your ID (passport), credit card, and cruise paperwork with you (you want to be able to get ON the ship).
2. Explore the ship.  When you first get on the ship everything is open.  Places like the spa do give-aways. It is a good time to familiarize yourself with the ship.  So go wonder!
3.  There is ONE outlet in your room.  That's right, ONE!  With all the chargers, curling irons and blow dryers you will be taking with you one outlet does not do it.  We take a small extension cord with a splitter on the end. (Maybe not a problem if you are only traveling with one other person.  But I travel with 3 other girls.)
4.   Food!  Ohh the food!  While food is in abundance (don't even pretend that you aren't going to eat!) 24 hours a day there is not a lot of snack food.  We bring our own candy for while we are watching movies or lounging by the pool.  What? We like candy! Something to think about if you are taking kids with you. (no! I did not eat all those desserts by myself.  Ok maybe I did)
5.  AC.  Bring a sweater, shawl, or jacket.  The theater and dinning room are air conditioned.  And remember you are on the water.  It can get a little chilly at night.
6.  There is always something to do .. or not do!  That is the beauty of the ship!  Check the schedule.  You just might to join in the mini golf tournament.  (You know we did and you know we have medals!)
7.  Books.  Did you know that the ship has a library?  Check it out.  They have books and games that you can borrow.  No need to pack your own.  If you bring a book with you and don't want to carry it home, donate it to the ship library.
8.  Get to know the staff. It isn't hard to do.  They are friendly and helpful from the get go.  They are a great source for what to do while at the ports.  They have been to these places dozens of times.  They can recommend beaches, excursions, restaurants, etc.  You just have to ask!  (ok, not everyone gets to hang with Cap'n Nick Nash we are just cool like that!).
9.  Bring your own water bottle. (everyone pretty much carries a water bottle ... right?)  You don't want to have to buy water every time you get off the ship and you DON'T want to be drinking the water at most ports.
 10.  Go to the gift shop, have them punch a hole in your key card, put it on a lanyard (they sell them in the gift shop).  A MUST if you have kids.
11.  Last but not least ... take the stairs.  After all you eat you will be glad you did.  But not only that the elevators are slow and sometimes crowded!  (there, I just justified eating those desserts by myself).

*** Beck came back with another tip -- wear a watch (I forgot about this one and it is a good one) We are so use to using our phones to know the time.  But on the ship you aren't using your phone.

Do you have any cruising tips? Leave them in a comment.
Cruise = pure vacation!
Bon Voyage!

Stress Management

I was feeling very hardcore when I went for a run this morning.
The earth covered in a blanket of white, the air crisp and clean, it is a magical time to go running.  I think I actually found a little joy in running today!

Making Time

There are a lot of things I have not been doing this year.  Things I like to do.  It is only 14 months and then my life will go back to ... being my life (that is what I keep telling myself anyway).  I just don't have a lot of TIME right now.
Sometimes you just have to MAKE a little time.  Em was in town for Fall Break so I took a day off of homework for a day of salsa canning.

Not only is it a lovely day with my sister, it is yummy salsa we can enjoy all year long.
It was well worth the time!

Sunday Joy

Diet Coke + Kim's caramel corn + Bronco's game.
Now that is JOY!
Kim's caramel corn is freaking good!  You should ask her for the recipe.

I can find some JOY in that!

Finding Joy ...

... in the simple things.
Grad school is HARD! (no beating around the bush here).  Oh my goodness this is so hard!
I was sitting in a conference at Thanksgiving Point feeling completely overwhelmed and inadequate (par for the course these days but not like me normally).  This picture was the view outside the conference room.  I love this time of year.  The colors are beautiful, the air is crisp.  For the moment that I was lost in the scenery I forgot how stressed I was.  It was then that I decided that I need to focus on finding joy in the small and simple things if I am going to make it through this program a sane person. (kidding ... but only kinda)

Something Old ...

I finally did it! (I have been talking about it for a couple of years). After 9 years I said goodbye to the Audi for something ...

NEW!

It's really pretty and shiny!
I owe my brother Josh for making it happen.  He is pretty good at this whole car buying thing!
Is it just me or is buying a car one of the least fun, most stressful things to do?  Do car dealers REALLY think people are that dumb ... oh, are people really that dumb?  Is it weird that I was sad leaving the Audi at the dealership?

I'm going to Cali to Cali to Cali

Actually I went to Cali ... I finished my finals (yep, I survived stats!) and had a little break before my internship started.  It just so happened that Jennie D was driving back to California. So I headed to Cali for a quick summer vacation! It was like the good old days with Jennie D.  The DFA in Beaver for some squeaky cheese and ice cream anyone?
It was the best week! Partly because I had NO homework but mostly because I was with some of my favorite people doing some of my favorite things ....
Pedicures and massages.  Pool time and tacos.  Movies and shopping.
A little synchronized swimming with Stacy.  Our form has really gotten good!
I went to the Newport Beach LDS temple.  It was amazing.
Orange County Fair!  Hello fried food! ... and some terrifying rides.  Pretty sure if my eyes would have been open I would have seen my life flash before me.

My one request was a day at the beach!
The waves were HUGE! Just ask Jennie ... she had to save a baby.
It was everything I hoped it would be!

Thanks to Jennie D. and Stacy for my much needed summer vacation.
 It was PERFECT!

Dirty Dirty Dash

It was a beautiful day to get a little dirty!
 The Dirty Dash 2012

Adding a little mud and a few obstacles to a  5k sure makes running more fun!

Don't mess!  These girls know how to throw it down!

Sunrise.
We have been having the most beautiful sunrises.  It makes driving to work that early in the morning just a little more pleasant.
