PIoneer Day 2012

I am pretty sure this was the best 24th of July Pioneer Day I have ever had!  I started my day with a bike ride.  It's the end of July and this was my first ride of the summer (I'm in grad school ... that's a good excuse, right?).  Then it was pool time.  Always a good idea.
Pete, Clementine, Anchor, Hun, Talulla, Kim and I decided that we should do something to celebrate the holiday.  So we had a parade .... in the pool!  (You have already done that, right?)  Hun magically appeared with float decorations and costume material.  Of course she did!  If you know her you are not surprised.  Before you know it, we had a parade.  Please notice the chaos happening at the back of the parade.  We worked it out and got them going.

What kind of Pie did you have on PIoneer day?  We had a Dan Barney cherry pie.  HEAVEN!
Oh the day was not over.  I finally got to see some fireworks.  I love fireworks!  I do.  We listened to nostalgic music from the early 90's and watched the Mapleton fireworks.  My summer is now complete.  I loved every second of it.  Oh and we did talk about the pioneers too.  It was Pioneer Day after all.

Mirror Mirror

We have had this mirror has long as I can remember.  It is brass and over the years become a little dingy.  But it's such a great mirror (awesome for doing your hair, you can actually see the back) that no one has ever thrown it out.

A little spray paint to the rescue.  Em's idea!

Be sure to put cardboard down.  First a coat of spray primer and then a couple coats of color.  Easy as that!  Start to finish about 20 minutes.
I picked a lovely turquoise. A nice accent color for the yellow bathroom.
A little piece of happy ever time I walk into the bathroom!

Auntie Sari

Oh my goodness I love this baby!  He was my little buddy for the 5 weeks they were visiting.  I loved when he would fall asleep on my bed with me. The hum of a fan, a little back scratching .... works every time.

Aunt Sari loves Ewan

It's the 4th of July!

I love the 4th of July (everyone loves the 4th of July ... right)
Our street was repaved the week before the 4th.  WHAT?  Clearly the city did not consult with us.  Fast thinking ... a new design and fresh paint!  Everyone is a star.

We started our day of celebrating by running the Freedom 5k.  It's our second year ... that makes it a tradition.
Our celebrations were a little more low key this year.  We spent the afternoon playing games with the kids (I was busy directing the relay races and didn't get any pictures.) Followed by a BBQ with friends and family.
Cul-de-sac of fire was simple this year.  A candy walk for the kids, the national anthem by James Conlee and fireworks.  It was fabulous.
I got to spend it with two of my favorite people.
God Bless America!
I sure do love this country!

Art Festival

The Art Festival is always a summertime favorite. (and the BEST people watching ever!)
Next to people watching ... the food.  It doesn't quite compare to derby food (no deep fried PB&J's) but it is right up there.
See how much fun Kim is having!
 Festival backdrop.
Sarah Z. She is one of the coolest people I know.  So glad we finally became friends.

My 3 Days of Summer

In-between terms I had 3 days of summer vacation.  I had to make the very most of it.  Thank goodness I had my sister in town to play along with me.  Here are my three days of summer:
Pete, Em, and I hiked the Y.  I haven't done that since I was in college.  Great Saturday morning!
We live in such a beautiful valley!

Kennecott Copper Mine with the kids.
This was a first for me.  Did you know you can see the mine pit from the moon!?!
You didn't think I would not do a project on my summer break. (everyone does projects on their break ... right?)
Before
After
I washed my car, watched movies, had some real pool time, and did some crafting with my sisters.
I believe it was a very productive summer break ... all three days of it.
Back to school I go!
